A native of Southern California went missing while visiting El Salvador three weeks ago, and his family is searching desperately for him.
Jose Tomas Lainez Missing Case:
According to his wife and kid, José Tomás Lainez vanished while hiking in the San Vicente area with family. His wife remarked, “We’re desperate because we haven’t heard anything.” She claimed that the party hiked in the overcast and over 100-degree weather, got lost, and eventually found the river they were searching for. The area Lainez’s kid hiked through was called a “secluded jungle area.” When they got to the river, the 54-year-old allegedly opted to head back to the car because he was overheated but suddenly vanished. His son said, “Maybe he fell, maybe he broke a leg, maybe he fainted.” “That’s what we thought for the first week.”

According to the Lainez family, he is a skilled hiker who knows the area. Now, they worry that he might have been abducted. Fearing they would be singled out, they urged Eyewitness News not to publish their names. Lainez was excited to get home, according to his relatives. After over three decades of service with the LAUSD, he recently received a promotion from bus driver to supervisor.
San Vicente police informed Eyewitness News that Lainez is still being sought after. The FBI is also helping, according to his relatives. We inquired with the agency, but usually, it neither confirms nor denies potential investigations. Eyewitness News also contacted the State Department, but they have not yet responded. He’s a content individual. We’re heartbroken since he puts so much effort into traveling to El Salvador for his annual vacation,” Lainez’s wife remarked. “We’re going into three weeks now and don’t know anything.”
