A Yamatji/Noongar artist, Sasha Hill, lives and works on Kaurna Yerta. Sasha’s experiences collecting, accumulating, and learning about Country have greatly affected her artistic technique and the rendering of her visual narrative. Her work revolves around identity and her relationship to Aboriginal history and culture. Her style, which she began painting at an early age, is defined by dot work, symbolism, and the use of bright hues amid various earthy shades. Sasha typically uses acrylic on canvas, although she also enjoys working with jewelry and weaving.
Who is Sasha Hill?
Sasha is an art therapist, social worker, and maker who runs her art and consultancy business while caring for her two children. Sasha draws on these multidisciplinary roles in her painting, incorporating Aboriginal ways of knowing, being, and doing into her art practice, narrative, and living. She has traveled and exhibited extensively around Australia, and she frequently returns to her ancestral home in Western Australia, where she gained songlines and information from women in the community.
