Tiger Woods Scored at the 2024 Masters Tournament

Despite finishing dead last, Tiger Woods received payment for his performance at Augusta National. As per Golfweek, the renowned golfer received $39,600 despite finishing in the 60th position. Although he stated he would have to make do with a respectable salary, Woods thought he could win another major.

Tiger Woods Masters 2024:

On a dramatic third day at the Masters, when Tiger Woods recorded his lowest score at a significant, American world number one, Scottie Scheffler held the lead. At Augusta, Scheffler is the hottest favorite since Woods’s heyday in the 2000s. He fired a one-under 71 to go one stroke ahead of Collin Morikawa and seven under.

Max Homa (73) was next with a five-under round after Morikawa shot 69 for six under. After sharing the lead overnight, Bryson DeChambeau shot 75 for third place, while Woods had an 82 to tie for eleventh.

After a frustrating day at Augusta National, DeChambeau, a home hope, Scheffler, Morikawa, and Homa rekindled his campaign by hole-holing out from the 18th fairway for a birdie.

After two bogeys in the last four holes, Swedish rookie Ludvig Aberg carded 70, one stroke behind the 30-year-old who had surged back to sixth on the leaderboard. Aberg, 24, only began his professional career ten months ago. Like Nicolai Hojgaard, his European Ryder Cup teammate, he hopes to make history by being the first person to win the Masters on his major league debut.

On Saturday, Hojgaard of Denmark had a brief lead but lost five straight bogeys in the back half of his card, finishing with a 74 to go two under. Tommy Fleetwood of England leads what has been a very lackluster contest thus far by one stroke after shooting a 72.

How did A Thrilling Backnine Play Out?

The last twist of a slow-burning day at Augusta was the magical moment created by DeChambeau, who played in the final pair with fellow overnight leader Homa. There is little indication that the drama will get very interesting when the main protagonists get closer to the turn.

Scheffler gained the lead by DeChambeau’s early bogey, while Homa, who had 17 pars despite a single bogey on the 12th, was trailing well behind.

The 2022 winner got off to the ideal start by making a birdie on the first hole. On the third, he scored another birdie with a considerable putt after being given a free drop after a furious drive. Scheffler had won two of his previous three tournaments and might pull away from the pack at that moment.

But more errors—a double bogey on ten after missing a two-foot putt and another bogey on 11—were a curveball that gave his playing partner Hojgaard the upper hand. Until three consecutive birdies at the turn turned the game around, Hojgaard had never even led a major.

But it turned out to be a false lead. Scheffler recovered while Hojgaard stumbled, scoring an eagle on hole 13 and another birdie on hole 15. A bogey on hole 17 lost Scheffler and Morikawa, but the 27-year-old restored his lead with a birdie on the final hole, eventually maintaining his magnificent form.

The 2021 Open winner Morikawa started the round quickly, making three birdies on the first three holes, and concluded with ten consecutive pars while the commotion went on all around him. The last pairing on Sunday, which begins at 19:35 BST, will feature the US Ryder Cup teammates.

“Rusty” Woods Plummets from the Top Spot:

Woods was one over at the midway point and, as we have seen so often over the years, spoke optimistically about his prospects at the weekend after cutting for a record-tying 24 years in a row.

The five-time Masters champion declared himself “right there” following round two, hoping to tie the legendary Jack Nicklaus’ record of wins.

But it turned out to be too hopeful as he lost ground on the leaderboard. The 48-year-old American had trouble finding the fairways, hitting only five out of 14, contributing to his lone major victory of 80 or more.

The most extensive damage was done by Woods’s consecutive double bogeys on holes seven and eight, after which he added six more on the back half. Before the Masters, Woods had hardly played at all as he continued to heal from injuries he had in a vehicle accident in February 2021.

After the potentially fatal collision that required many surgeries, including ones on his ankle and legs, the 15-time major winner has scaled back his activity. Even making the weekend on one of the most demanding courses in the sport was a respectable accomplishment, considering his lack of competitive activity. The long-time former world champion appeared to be losing vigor on Saturday.

When asked what he had discovered about his game, Woods said, “It’s rusty,” with a laugh. I haven’t played golf lately, at least not in a competitive sense.”

Rahm and McIlroy have too much work ahead of them:

History carries an additional responsibility that has grown heavier every time Rory McIlroy returns to the Masters over the last ten years. Between 2011 and 2014, McIlroy won four majors: The Open, US Open, US PGA Championship thrice.

That means he needs to win the Masters to become just the sixth man in history to accomplish a career grand slam. The 34-year-old Northern Irishman’s performance has fallen short of what is required to win at Augusta this time.

After shooting a one-under 71 on Saturday, he is once again three over and too far behind to make a meaningful push on Sunday. But according to the world number two, he will “give it a go” with that mentality.

“You will move up the scoreboard if the conditions remain the same and you score four, five, or six shots. In his quest to go down in golf history, McIlroy, who has six top-10 finishes to his name, stated, “I will try to finish the week on a positive note.”

Although he narrowly avoided the cut, the defending champion, Jon Rahm, could also not shoot the low number required to close the leader gap.

The 29-year-old Spaniard had an uninteresting round, bogeying the eighth, but he signed for a level-par 72, which put him five over for the tournament after making a birdie on the 17th. He described it as a “sour feeling” not to be vying for the crown on Sunday.

“Worse case, I’ll be in the ceremony,” the LIV Golf star continued. As per tradition, he will present the winner with the Green Jacket.
