SSS Disability Benefit: Who is Eligible in 2024?

SSS Disability Benefit 2024:

Having a chronic disease or being wounded is a problematic situation. You can’t support yourself again by going back to work, in addition to your physical limitations. When money alone isn’t enough to cover hospital stays, rehabilitation, and starting again, the SSS Disability benefit steps in.

The Social Security Administration (SSS) in the Philippines provides working-age persons with disabilities access to a contributing monthly transfer. Before the disability semester, you must have been qualified for the disability benefit by making your SSS payments for at least one month. The pension’s monthly amount is determined by contributions and years of service. The SSS’s disability benefits program in the Philippines has a list of qualifying conditions in this document.

Comprehending the SSS Disability Benefit:

A financial payout is given as a lump sum or a monthly pension to a member who is totally or partially permanently disabled. The benefit is paid out each month as a disability pension or lump sum, depending on the member’s monthly contributions to the Social Security Administration.

Types of Disability Benefits:

Monthly Payment: A monthly disability payment is available to members who, before the semester of disability, made at least 36 months’ worth of SSS contributions.

Lump-sum payment: This is for members who have paid fewer than 36 monthly installments previous to the semester of disability, as well as for those whose allowed disability time is due for less than a year.

A lump sum payout equal to twelve times the monthly pension multiplied by the total number of SSS monthly contributions, whichever is more significant, is available to claimants with a complete disability who have paid less than thirty-six months of payments.

A monthly pension is payable to individuals who have contributed for fewer than 36 months and are partially handicapped. The pension is multiplied by the number of monthly contributions, the percentage of disability, or twelve times the % of disability, whichever is larger.

Who is Eligible for Disability Benefits Under SSS?

Before the disability semester started, the applicant had to have paid at least thirty-six monthly payments to be eligible for a disability pension. If their monthly contributions are less than thirty-six, they get paid in one amount.

Candidates for the SSS disability benefit must be members with a total or partial lifetime handicap. The SSS covers the following categories of diseases and disabilities.

Partially Disabled

a total and irreversible loss of use or function in any of the following body parts, as long as it doesn’t prevent them from working for pay.

Absolute Permanent Disability

Total blindness in both eyes; disability of two limbs at or above the wrists or ankles; brain damage causing permanent insanity or imbecility; and other circumstances that the SSS has recognized and accepted.

For the remainder of their lives, SSS members who are fully and permanently disabled are entitled to a disability pension, which is paid each month. However, SSS stops paying pensions if the person gets well or starts working again.

SSS Disability Benefit Amount:

The pension you receive each month depends on how long you were an SSS member and how much you paid before the disability semester. Members will only get lifelong monthly pensions if they are entirely and irreversibly crippled.

The monthly pension for members with less than ten credited years of service (CYS) is P1,000; for those with ten or more CYS, it is P1,200; and for those with twenty or more CYS, it is P2,400. The member receives their SS Disability Pension plus P500 in monthly Supplemental Allowance if they qualify.

A further incentive of P1,000 has also been added as of January 2017. The complete and half-incapacitated members’ lump payment amount is determined by SSS using many formulas.

Under the terms of the SS Total Disability plan, dependent pensions would be paid to up to five dependent minor children, beginning with the youngest. They would be worth 10% of the member’s monthly pension, or P250, whichever is higher. It is not allowed to use substitutes.

December sees the payment of a 13th month’s pension for Social Security whole disability pensioners; for those receiving partial disability benefits, this benefit is given for as long as the retirement is 12 months or longer.

How Much is SSS Partial Disability Benefit?

The following formula is used to compute the benefit for partial disability:

  • The total amount of monthly Social Security payments received x The monthly disability pension x The proportion of the overall incapacity of the body
  • Monthly Pension × 12 x Disability Ratio

Whichever of these figures produces the higher quantity will be used.
