NASHVILLE, Tenn.(AP) – One man was killed and five others were injured in a shooting at a restaurant in Nashville, Tennessee, police said.
The shooting occurred around 3 p.m. Sunday in Nashville’s Salemtown neighborhood began minutes after the suspect arrived at the restaurant with a woman, police said.
The suspect and the dead man got into an argument that “escalated significantly within a matter of moments,” Nashville Metropolitan Police spokesman Don Aaron said during a news conference at the scene.
Police later identified the dead man as 33-year-old Allen Beachem. The condition of the other victims was not immediately released.
Police identified a 46-year-old suspect and the car used to flee the scene using security footage provided by the restaurant. As the search for the suspect continued Sunday, police posted photos from the shooting scene on social media, including an image of a man pointing a handgun.
“The shooter was the only person brandishing a gun. It wasn’t a shooting, it was a person deciding to pull out a gun after an argument with another man and then he fired multiple shots,” Aaron said.
Police Commander Anthony McClain said there was panic inside the restaurant as customers tried to escape.
“Several people tried to fight the shooter,” McClain said.
“It was just mass chaos.” Investigators went to a local hospital Sunday to interview victims to determine exactly what happened, Aaron said.”It can be as simple as one person invading another’s space,” he said.
